Melco casinos help train hospitality students

October 5, 2022 Europe Events & Announcements

A Limassol-based pilot programme will train high school students who aspire to follow a career in the hospitality industry.

The Lifelong Learning Programmes of Vocational Education and Training in the hospitality sector are supported by Melco Cyprus, operator of Cyprus Casinos (C2) and the upcoming integrated resort City of Dreams Mediterranean. The project, supported by the education ministry, will be implemented this month with a pilot programme in Limassol.

“Melco Cyprus is honoured to support this project by enabling students the opportunity to learn from Melco’s highly experienced and qualified trainer professionals,” a relevant press release said. It explained the programme will be delivered through two 50-hour segments. The first will be taught by state instructors, while Melco Cyprus colleagues will share their expertise and knowledge on the food and beverage industry for the second part of the programme.

Speaking during a visit to the career centre, director of vocational training at the education ministry Elias Markadjis extended ‘warm thanks’ to Melco on behalf of the ministry. “We have no doubt that our students have a lot to gain from such highly skilled instructors with vast experience in global hospitality services,” he added.

“Supporting local talent development is core to Melco’s CSR philosophy. We are pleased…to share our expertise and commitment to hospitality excellence with their students who are interested in joining the food and beverage industry, by helping them become more knowledgeable and well-informed about the Cypriot and European market, and ultimately contributing to the country’s sustainable tourism development,” said property general manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos, Grant Johnson.

“Melco focuses on offering world-class dining experiences at its global resorts and rest assured, this is what we promote to young local talent: to work on offering the best.”

Melco collaborates with local institutions and organisations to develop and implement innovative talent develop programmes for the nurturing of local talent. Learning initiatives include the Melco-funded YOU-niversity bachelor’s degree programme and those taught at the Melco Learning Academy, Macau’s first in-house academy. Locally, Melco Cyprus partners with top-rated universities to offer colleagues practical learning opportunities through scholarships.

Furthermore, the company has agreements with various Cypriot universities to provide Melco employees with full and partial scholarships in around 35 fields.
