Hungarian player wins WPT Korea 2024 Championship Event
The WPT Korea 2024 Championship Event, the main event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Korea, was won by Mate Hanusi of Hungary. On Jeju Island in South Korea, the venue for the event was Landing Casino, which is part of the Jeju Shinhwa World resort.
The WPT Korea tournament occurred from March 25 to April 3. It included a number of events leading up to the Championship tournament, which had a KRW2.8 million buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of KRW2 billion (US$1.5 million).
After overcoming Chinese competitor Ma Li in the championship round, Hanusi took home a cool KRW434.94 million.
The organizer claims that with 28 events overall and an incredible 4,146 players registered—including a record-breaking 1,065 registrations into the Championship tournament—this year’s WPT Korea 2024 competition exceeded its predecessor. The event had a total prize pool of around KRW7.63 billion.
In the near future, the WPT will host two Asian tournaments: the Wynn Macau Championship in June at Wynn Macau and the WPT Vietnam Passport to the World Championship in May at the Crown Poker Club in Hanoi.
