Macau Airport sees surge in passenger volume during four-day Easter holiday
Over the course of the four-day Easter weekend, which ran from March 29 to April 1, Macau International Airport handled 88,978 passengers—a significant increase of 80.38 percent over Easter in 2023.
Additionally, during this time frame, 658 aircraft movements occurred at the CAM-managed airport, a 44.62 percent increase from the prior year. With a 74% increase in passengers and a 76% increase in aircraft movements during the Easter vacation in 2019, these data show a notable improvement.
In an effort to increase market flexibility, Macau Airport will start offering wide-body aircraft via Air Macau as part of the new summer flying schedule for 2024. In addition, China Southern Airlines has started operating again from Beijing Daxing International Airport in the Macau market, giving passengers access to Europe and other locations and enhancing travel options between Macau and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
In order to establish connecting flights, Macau International Airport is actively working with airlines to expand its medium- and long-haul routes, as highlighted in the CAM statement.
The goal of initiatives like “one ticket to the final destination” and baggage check services is to facilitate travel for foreign tourists and Macau residents alike, allowing for connections to destinations in Europe, the US, and beyond.
The objective of the airport operator is to enhance Macau’s worldwide connectivity by bringing in a diverse array of foreign flights, both direct and connecting.
