Google is planning to approve more Real Money Gaming apps in the Play Store.
Starting in June, Google will expand the presence of real money gaming (RMG) apps in its Play Store, beginning with games from India, Brazil, and Mexico. This global policy change follows a softened stance in 2021 for gambling apps in regions with local licenses. Google plans to support various RMG apps, even those outside existing licensing frameworks.
Initially launching in India, Mexico, and Brazil, the expansion aims to cover more markets in the future. Positive feedback from users and developers during pilot programs influenced this decision. Notably, games like Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) will be included, with an emphasis on maintaining user safety through unchanged or strengthened policies, such as age gating and geo-gating.
Google also hinted at evolving the service fee model for RMG apps to reflect the value provided by Google Play and sustain the Android and Play ecosystems. Further details on these changes will be disclosed in the coming months, according to Karan Gambhir, Director of Global Trust and Safety Partnerships.
