NSW govt gives green light to expanded cashless gaming trial

December 15, 2023 iGaming & Gambling

An extended cashless gaming experiment has been authorized by the government of New South Wales (NSW) and is set to commence in the first quarter of 2024 by the Independent Panel on Gaming Reform.

A total of 4,500 machines total will be part of this enlarged trial, which will be dispersed across 28 hotels and clubs in 24 metropolitan and regional local government areas.

Participating venues range in size from large clubs with more than 300 machines to tiny local bars and clubs. Aristocrat Leisure, IGT, and eBet are among the five technology providers that have been granted conditional approval to take part in this expanded trial, provided they meet certain cybersecurity requirements.

Integrating data security and privacy protections, anti-money laundering measures, and damage mitigation strategies is the main objective of the study. The choice is in line with the NSW government’s larger gaming reform strategy, which attempts to solve issues with money laundering and gambling harm related to electronic gaming machines.

It is anticipated that the pilot, which will be examined by an impartial panel, would provide authorities with crucial information, especially as no other Australian jurisdiction has set up a statewide cashless gaming system. The panel is supposed to provide a comprehensive proposal for gaming reform to the NSW government by November 2024.
