Macau’s VIP Baccarat Revenue Surges 68% in Q1

April 17, 2024 Macau iGaming & Gambling

According to official figures, Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) from VIP baccarat climbed by 68% year over year in the first quarter.

This significant increase is comparable to the 69% rise in mass-segment baccarat GGR reported by the city’s gaming authority, DICJ.

A little under MOP14.38 billion ($1.78 billion) in VIP baccarat revenue was generated in Q1, making up 25% of the overall casino GGR.

Horse racing and lottery operations were included in the MOP57.33 billion ($7.11 billion) total casino GGR for the first quarter of 2024.

Additionally, slot machine GGR increases dramatically, reaching around MOP3.22 billion ($399 million), or a 31.5% increase over the same period previous year. There are 12,000 slot machines and 6,000 live-dealer gaming tables available in Macau.

According to Goldman Sachs, the continuous rebound in tourism has caused the Q1 GGR to exceed historical seasonality.

Due to events like the Bruno Mars performance, MGM, Wynn, and SJM have all increased their market shares; MGM China now holds a 17% stake. Wynn Macau’s stock price rises to 14%, illustrating the pattern of premium-led recovery.

Pursuant to its “One SJM” strategy, SJM’s market share rises to 12.5% by taking advantage of hotel rooms that are reserved for gamers.
