Vietnam, Cambodia see increase in tourist arrivals

The General Statistics Office reports that 8.9 million foreign tourists visited Vietnam in the first nine months of 2023, which represents a 4.7-fold increase year over year.

Included in this are the over 1 million foreign visitors who visited in September, a 13.4% drop from August. 87.5% of the 8.9 million arrivals between January and September were made by aircraft, which represented a 69% increase over pre-COVID levels.

According to VietnamNet, sales from travel and tourism services climbed by 47.7%, while revenues from hotels and catering increased by 16% year over year.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia also reported a strong increase in tourism, with 3.5 million foreign tourists coming to the nation in the first eight months of 2023, up 251% year over year but down 19.7% from the same period in 2019. Cambodia anticipates between 4.5 million and 5 million tourists this year.

2.28 million people arrived via land and water, a 206% increase over the 1.2 million who arrived by air.
