Beat the Dealer
This book is adapted from a mathematics paper by the author Edward O. Thorp. Edward is a professor in the Department of Mathematics, and this paper was published in an authoritative American mathematics journal in 1959.
The author takes the blackjack game as a mathematical problem, applies probability theory and Kelly’s formula to establish a mathematical model, and proposes a set of card counting strategies with the help of a computer. In order to cite his ideas, the author also went to American casinos to conduct experiments.
After the experiment was successful, Edward published “Beat the Dealer: A Winning Strategy for the Game of Twenty-One” in 1962, and it was on the New York Times bestseller list. This book earned Edward the title of “Father of Card Counting”.
