Macau Leader: No Gambling at Jockey Club Land

April 17, 2024 Macau iGaming & Gambling

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng reaffirmed Macau’s stance on the Macau Jockey Club (MJC) property during a Legislative Assembly meeting on Tuesday, emphasizing that it will not be utilized for gaming.

Ho Iat Seng responded to a query from lawmaker Ella Lei regarding the government’s intentions regarding the Jockey Club land by saying that, although there aren’t any immediate plans for its use, it will be incorporated into long-term plans for sporting and entertainment events. He disregarded the possibility of building houses or casinos on the land.

The enormous 3.35 million square meter racecourse has logistical challenges, and it will likely take some time to excavate the basement.

According to Ho Iat Seng, it will require a corporation with international certification one to two years to develop a comprehensive plan for public assessment.

Ho Iat Seng highlighted the need for the city center to use its space as efficiently as possible and expressed optimism that the racetrack will eventually transform into a varied location for a range of events.

The operator of the Macau Jockey Club has until April 2025 to turn over all facilities to the government, as the club closed on April 1st.

The latest information indicates that as part of the changeover, nearly 150 horses would be housed in quarantine in nearby Zhuhai.
