Macau’s hotel occupancy rate reaches 89.7% in February
With a robust hotel occupancy rate of 89.7% in February, Macau saw a 12 percentage point increase from the year before and a four-point increase from January.
The Macau Hotel Association made these numbers public, and the Macao Government Tourism Office publicized them on Monday.
The data shows that in February, 90.9% of five-star hotels were occupied, a 13.7 percentage point increase over the same month the previous year. Comparably, the occupancy rate for four-star hotels increased by 8.6 percentage points to 82.4%, while the rate for three-star hotels increased by 7.3 percentage points to 92%.
At the same period, room rates also showed strength, a notable increase of 28.4% over the previous year with an average of MOP$1,544.9 (US$191.80). In February, the average cost of lodging at five-star hotels was MOP$1,732.3 (US$215.07), an increase of 28.5%. Three-star hotels saw an increase of 18.3% to MOP$1,052.70 (US$130.70), while four-star hotels saw a rise of 25.3% to MOP$1,082.7 (US$134.42).
The Chinese New Year Golden Week period, during which many hotels had full bookings during peak hours, may have contributed to February’s strong performance.
There are twelve four-star, seven three-star, and twenty-seven five-star hotels that are members of the Macau Hotel Association.
