Thailand’s Labour Minister publicly backs legalization of casinos
Thailand’s Labor Minister, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has said that she is in favor of casinos being built, citing potential economic benefits such the development of up to 50,000 employment around the state.
Phiphat suggests that five casinos be built around Thailand, ideally in little towns within each of the five regions, according to The Bangkok Post. With Songkhla and Chiang Rai mentioned as potential options, these locations need to already have additional tourist attractions, a wide range of hotel options, and the necessary infrastructure and transportation.
Phiphat estimates that integrated resort complexes might provide 10,000 jobs per, with wages that are higher than those of many other local work opportunities.
“Legalizing activities such as gambling in casinos will create more benefits for the economy,” he said, emphasizing that the presence of casinos may attract both local and foreign tourists, keeping residents from traveling abroad for similar entertainment.
In light of his previous role as minister of tourism and sports, Phiphat stressed the need of stringent screening procedures for patrons of nearby casinos, particularly with regard to employment and socioeconomic standing.
According to IAG, the House of Representatives in Thailand will review a second study that has been completed on the licensing of casino resorts in the nation. After passing the House, it will be examined and finally approved by the Cabinet.
