Thailand closer to legalizing casinos

March 14, 2024 Thailand Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

Next week, a committee from Thailand’s House of Representatives tasked with examining the feasibility of opening casinos there is expected to deliver its findings to the legislature.

The second reading, according to the Bangkok Post, supports the idea of making gaming legal. The special House committee’s head, Thai Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat, declared the study’s completion, providing comprehensive details on the topic.

Amornvivat pointed out that the study would proceed to the cabinet for approval and implementation if the House approved it.

The deputy chairman of the House committee, Sorawong Thienthong, said that while the casino is just a small portion of the whole complex, the gaming industry may bring in large sums of money for the government.

In an earlier interview with AGB, gaming expert Fredric Gushin said that, considering the limited opportunities throughout the world, Thailand can turn into a lucrative market for gaming companies, especially premium ones.

It’s said that Genting Singapore was the first business to openly express interest in developing an integrated resort (IR) in Thailand.
