Expert notes China’s warning against gambling in Singapore is “not new”
An expert in the gaming sector pointed out that previous warnings similar to the one sent by the Chinese embassy to its citizens against foreign gambling are not new.
During a panel discussion at the 6th ASEAN Gaming Summit, Ben Lee, a seasoned veteran of the gaming business and managing partner of IGamix Management and Consulting, said that China has long since informed its citizens that gambling outside of mainland China is prohibited.
Ramon Garcia Jr., Executive Chairman and Founder of DFNN, expressed concern about the potential impact of the warnings on the Philippine gaming industry, but said that the gambling advice would not be as concerning as China’s financial difficulties. Garcia emphasized that supply chains may be more affected by internal shifts occurring inside China, such as industrial relocations and the impact of global tariffs.
Citing a breach of Chinese laws prohibiting international gaming, the Chinese embassy in Singapore has advised its citizens to abstain from all types of gambling when visiting the city-state. This prudence is in line with Beijing’s stepped-up efforts to suppress Chinese individuals running gambling businesses in Southeast Asia, a popular travel destination.
