Counter-Strike skin gambling continues on Twitch despite platform’s ban

In spite of Twitch’s previous efforts to exclude Counter-Strike (CS) skin gambling sites from its platform, reports suggest that these kinds of activities persist as long as the prohibition is not strictly enforced.

In August, Twitch banned the display of CS skin gambling sites, sometimes referred to as CS case opening sites. As part of a new policy meant to address concerns about the popularity of gambling-related content, particularly with CS skins, which some argue might serve as a gateway to juvenile gambling, the prohibition encompassed the promotion of these sites, including free social versions.

Dexerto, a news outlet covering video games, has discovered that Twitch has not been closely monitoring its own rules. Dexerto claims that broadcasters aren’t concerned about getting removed or suspended from the service since they can still highlight and advertise CS skin gambling sites. Leading producers of CS gambling material, such as CS2 broadcasts and tournament directors, are still interacting with case-opening websites and using Twitch plugins like Magic Wheel to earn prizes.

Twitch’s ability to adequately police gambling-related content while abiding by its own rules is called into question by the lack of strict enforcement. The initial prohibition targeted content creators who provided affiliate codes and included sponsored segments into their broadcasts in order to work with CS gaming websites.

The fact that there is still a lot of CS skin gambling content on Twitch despite the platform’s official lack of response indicates that the efforts to curb these activities are not having the desired effect. Gaming content has always been a contentious issue for Twitch, and the platform’s attempts to regulate it have had mixed results, including the departure of some artists and the expansion of rival sites.
