Hoiana recovers from COVID-19 setbacks, welcomes 69,000 visitors in 1H23

October 16, 2023 Vietnam Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

Hoiana Resort & Golf is deftly surmounting the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. A notable increase in the number of visits and visitors has been observed, with figures surging from 5,000 in 2020 to an extraordinary 51,000 in 2022, and from thereon into the first half of 2023, an even more astounding 69,000.

In an interview with Vietnam’s VN Express, Hoiana Resort & Golf’s President and CEO, Steven Wolstenholme, hypothesized that the resort would experience a robust recovery in 2023, contingent upon revenue from key markets. As specific marketplaces remained closed, they capitalized on the opportunity presented by their golf course to attract patrons from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and various other nations.

Its status as a premier destination was solidified with the rebranding of the 330-room Hoiana Beach Resort to the New World brand. Steve believes that Vietnam has demonstrated its ability to accommodate travelers who present minimal risk through various initiatives and programs. The government’s receptiveness to international businesses and citizens has reduced obstacles to expansion and travel.

The tourism sector is filled with optimism in light of the implementation of a novel electronic visa system, which is accessible to nationals of every country. Steve holds an optimistic outlook regarding the substantial benefits that will accrue to Vietnam’s tourism sector and related industries as a result of this streamlined travel procedure. He foresees Hoiana having a prosperous future and many years filled with extraordinary opportunities.

Hoiana, the inaugural fully integrated resort in Vietnam, encountered challenges shortly after its soft launch in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July of this year, Hoiana Resort was acquired by the Hong Kong billionaire Cheng family of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises from the junket magnate of Macau, Alvin Chau.
