Smart Gaming Tables and RFID Chips Forecasted to Boost Macau Casino Revenues

April 8, 2024 Macau Casino & Hotel

Incorporating RFID chips and smart gaming tables into Macau’s casinos is anticipated to automatically increase gaming revenues without boosting foot traffic, per a Citibank research note.

Because smart table technology has been a popular subject in the local gaming business, Citi analysts George Choi and Ryan Cheung emphasized that it is a crucial benefit that can speed up game rounds. According to their estimation, every five seconds saved during a game of baccarat might result in a 5.9% rise in organic GGR.

The researchers estimate that 10% of Macau’s tables currently have smart technology installed. They continued by stating, “If the adoption of smart gaming tables becomes more widespread, we will have significantly higher confidence in the long-term growth prospects of the Macau gaming industry.”

Operators reportedly plan to implement the technology on every baccarat table; some even plan to complete the implementation by year’s end.

Citi claims that in addition to collecting data on players’ betting habits using RFID chips and smart gaming tables, these technologies can also provide more precise player value and effective player compensation strategies.

“For instance, it’s logical for casinos to enhance comps for players consistently wagering 10% of their baccarat bets on the Lucky 6 exotic bet, as our estimates suggest these players are worth 125.5% more than those strictly betting on main wagers,” the investigators stated.

Additionally, the technology can help with the long-standing problem of counterfeit chip usage in Macau casinos by enabling operators to develop new exotic bets with bigger stakes.

“Based on our most recent monthly table survey, we believe that all mass baccarat tables at the two MGM China casinos feature smart gaming technology,” Citi stated in reference to the rollout’s present condition. In Macau’s Londoner casino’s expansive concourse, we spotted 140 sophisticated gaming tables. Furthermore, we discovered that Wynn Macau’s grind mass area has 24 smart gaming tables, yet Wynn Palace has none. Galaxy, Melco, and SJM have already partnered with makers of smart gaming tables, as per management disclosures made during prior earnings calls.
