Kangwon Land Invests in Luxurious Resort Transformation

April 8, 2024 South Korea Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

The South Korean company Kangwon Land intends to invest $1.9 billion to transform its casino into an opulent integrated resort. Building a sky bridge, adding more hotels, integrating a range of leisure facilities, and enlarging the casino floor are all part of the massive project.

Choi Cheol-Gyu, CEO, underlined the necessity of significantly increasing the gaming floor’s size from 15,486 square meters to 49,500 square meters in order to alleviate the current seating restriction.

For the previous three months, Kangwon Land has been collecting the opinions of stakeholders, industry experts, and customers through the formation of a Special Committee.

The Korean gaming corporation intends to develop Kangwon Land into a world-class integrated resort destination and to bring back mining zones that have been abandoned, with plans to do so until 2032.

The targets encompass a broad spectrum of metrics, such as augmenting non-gambling revenue, elevating the quantity of visitors, enhancing employment opportunities, and drawing in more foreign visitors.

Acting CEO Choi Cheol-kyu reported on current challenges, such as the need to draw in foreign visitors, an ambiguous resort identity, and a lack of food and entertainment options.
