Vietnam sets target of 18 million international tourist arrivals in 2024

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has set a goal of 18 million foreign visitor arrivals for the current year, after the recovery of January arrival data to pre-pandemic levels.

According to VietnamNet, more than 1.5 million foreign tourists arrived in January, matching the amount from the previous year and marking an increase of 10.3% from December and 73.6% from the previous year.

This change, according to the tourist office, is a result of the recent unilateral exemptions of visa requirements for 13 European nations, extending the period of visa-free travel from 15 to 45 days. The number of immigrants into Germany, France, Russia, and the UK increased significantly in January.

Vietnam’s top source market was South Korea, accounting for 27.6% of all arrivals in January. Taiwan and mainland China followed in second and third, respectively. Furthermore, compared to gains from 26.6% in Europe, 35.2% in Africa, and 68.5% in Australia, the number of visits from the Americas climbed by 27.3% during December.

The tourism bureau projects that, in addition to seeking 18 million foreign visitors, there will be 110 million local tourism trips in 2024. It is anticipated that the sector would bring in $34.4 billion overall.
