World Poker Tour in Asia concludes, German player emerges as victor
After the conclusion of the first World Poker Tour main event in Asia, Konstantin Held of Germany emerged triumphant at WPT Cambodia.
A large field of 760 players competed in the Main Event of WPT Cambodia, which was hosted at NagaWorld in Phnom Penh. hosted narrowly defeated Australian tournament pro Josh McCully to win the US$361,310 first prize. A US$10,400 ticket to the Wynn Las Vegas 2024 WPT World Championship was also included in Held’s wins.
“WPT Cambodia was a remarkable event,” said Adam Pliska, CEO of WPT. In addition to ushering in the 2024 season, it was the first Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup in Southeast Asia. Being the first player in the area to win a WPT Champions Club title, Konstantin will always be recognized.
Over the last year, the WPT has been actively expanding its presence in Asia, holding events in Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, India, and Cambodia. In addition, two tournaments in Australia and the WPT Australia major tour stop, which starts in September 2022 at The Star Gold Coast, show the organization’s dedication to the region.
As evidence that the WPT is aggressively seeking for new opportunities in Asia, Pliska informed IAG that the organization is considering holding an event in Macau in the future.
