Dubai launches Programme for Gaming 2023, to create 30,000 jobs

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, presided over a meeting of the Higher Committee for Future Technology and Digital Economy during which the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2023 was unveiled.

This initiative aims to position Dubai within the top ten cities worldwide in terms of gaming. and to increase the gaming industry’s contribution to the gross domestic product by $1 billion within the next decade. Most importantly, among the objectives of the Dubai Programme for Gaming 2023 is to generate 30,000 new jobs.

Dubai has dedicated significant resources to the promotion of its casino and gaming sector. There has been contemplation between the city and its neighbor Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates regarding the construction of casinos and other gaming establishments.

Earlier this year, Jim Murren, former Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, was appointed Chair of the General Commercial Casino Regulatory Authority (UAE), aligning with the region’s objective of emerging as a significant participant in the casino industry.

The council also authorized three new initiatives as part of the Dubai Metaverse Strategy, which seeks to transform Dubai into the most technologically advanced metropolis in the world. Dubai has been actively organizing Web3 and blockchain-related activities in an effort to stimulate industry expansion and attract investments from international companies.

As of yet, Dubai is devoid of casinos or other forms of wagering establishments, in observance of Muslim beliefs. However, indications suggest that this may change in the future, similar to the Wynn Resorts concept.
