Vietnamese officials further supervision of casinos; operators require installation of CCTVs

The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance has asked local casino establishments to equip their venues with a working camera system for the ministry to properly supervise their operations.

According to a report by Dtinews, casinos in the country will be asked to install cameras at the doors, game tables, cashiers, and containers of cash and conventional currency, and should keep the clips recorded by the cameras for at least 180 days.

The decision came after the Vietnamese ministry conducted regular inspections at some local casino businesses and found violations for allowing patrons who are not eligible to play or causing social disorders.

On August 24th, the country’s finance ministry announced that casino activities for foreigners in seven provinces and cities will be regularly inspected.

Vietnam has nine casinos including three major ones on Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province, Hoi An in Quang Nam Province and Ho Tram in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province. The other six small-scale casinos are in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Da Nang.

Gambling in Vietnam is only allowed to foreigners with a highly restricted trial for locals initiated at the Corona Casino in Phu Quoc in 2019. At the end of 2022, the Ministry of Finance indicated they were in favor of extending the trial for another two years.
