K-Pop Star Seungri Receives Final Jail Sentencing for Crimes

The Supreme Court of Korea upheld a sentence of one year and six months from Seungri’s original trial, via Soompi.

He was determined to be guilty of all nine charges including “the violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, prostitution mediation, purchase of prostitution services, and special violence instigation.”

Between 2015 and 2016, Seungri was accused of mediating prostitutes for investors and for himself, in order to attract investments into clubs and businesses. He was also accused of embezzlement.

The charges also include using approximately $1.7 million for gambling in Las Vegas from 2013 to 2017 and not reporting that he loaned $1 million worth of chips for gambling funds. He was also charged with threatening someone with gangsters.
