12 PEOPLE INVESTIGATED AFTER OPERATION AGAINST ILLEGAL GAMBLING

11 males and one woman aged 34 to 80 are under investigation for their alleged involvement in unlawful gaming.

Officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted enforcement operations against unlawful gaming near Marsiling Road, Marsiling Crescent, and Woodlands Street 32 between February 26 and March 9, 2022.

Three males between the ages of 34 and 65 were accused of acting as bookies for seven others between the ages of 54 and 72. A 71-year-old lady was reportedly found to have purchased a lottery ticket from an 80-year-old man who had allegedly aided in the operation of a public lottery. Furthermore, two of the three bookies are being investigated for an alleged violation of the Remote Gambling Act of 2014, Approximately $470 in cash

Penalties:
If found guilty of carrying a public lottery shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine between $20,000 and $200,000, and with imprisonment for a term up to five years.

If found guilty of bookmaking shall be liable on conviction to a fine between $20,000 and $200,000, and with imprisonment for a term up to five years. Placing bets with bookies can result in a fine of up to $5,000 and/or jail for 6 months.
