Konami Founder Kagemasa Kozuki named to Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame

January 21, 2022 Industry Updates

Konami Holdings Founder, Chairman and Representative Director Kagemasa Kozuki has been named to the Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame.

On 5 May 2022, the 81-year-old Japanese businessman will be officially inducted into the prestigious institution during a ceremony at Biloxi’s Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

Kozuki founded Konami over half-a-century ago, aged only 29, and has overseen the company’s transformation from a humble jukebox provider to the entertainment juggernaut that it is today.

His induction as part of the Gaming Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022 is for the work he has done to further the gaming industry and support communities in Mississippi.

“Mr Kozuki is among the gaming pioneers that have helped develop this industry into a long-term material benefit for people and communities in the State of Mississippi,” said Larry Gregory, Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association (MGHA).

“We look forward to recognising and celebrating his work as the official induction approaches.”

From its headquarters in Tokyo, Kozuki oversees Konami’s vast business operations, alongside his son Takuya who serves as President.

The company has a significant investment in gambling, manufacturing slot machines and operating casinos around the world. However, Konami is perhaps most well-known as a video game developer and publisher.

MGM Resorts’ President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle commented: “The future of gaming, whether here in the US or in markets as far away as Japan, relies upon strong technology and strong communities.

“Mr Kozuki has demonstrated a relentless personal commitment to both, and for that I’m thrilled to offer sincere congratulations for his naming to the Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame.”
