August 2, 2024 Philippines Events & Announcements

PH among top nations for Olympic medal incentives; offers P24-million condo unit for gold medalists

Athletes who will bring honor and glory to the country at Paris Olympics 2024 have a gold medal incentive set at P10 million. This makes the Philippines one of the countries with the highest payouts for Olympic medalists.

In terms of monetary incentives, the Philippines stands prominently on the global stage. The country offers P10 million for a gold medal, placing it 12th worldwide, ninth in Asia, and fourth in Southeast Asia in terms of medal incentives. Pinoy athletes who will bring home a silver medal will get P5 million and P2 million for a bronze medal.

Globally, Hong Kong and Singapore lead with the highest incentives, offering $768,000 (P44.7 million) and $745,000 (P43.3 million) respectively for Olympic gold medalists. Other nations such as Taipei and Thailand also offer substantial rewards, with $720,000 (P41.93 million) and $365,000 (P21.27 million) respectively.

In contrast, the United States provides $37,500 (P2.18 million) for a gold medal, and host country France offers $87,000 (P5 million). The United Kingdom, on the other hand, does not provide direct monetary rewards but offers annual incentives of $36,000 (P2.09 million) for podium finishers.

Adding to the financial incentives, Filipino Olympic gold medalists in 2024 will also be receiving a reward from Megaworld Corporation. Each gold medalist will be given a fully-furnished two-bedroom condominium unit valued at P24 million in the McKinley Hill township in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. This incentive is part of Megaworld’s celebration of the 100th year of the Philippines’ participation in the Olympic Games.
