P5 million offered by Chavit Singson in exchange for Carlos Yulo reunion with family
Former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson has pledged P5 million to Olympian Carlos Yulo if he reunites with his family. Singson took to Facebook to share his proposal, emphasizing that his gesture is not tied to Yulo’s gold medal victories at the 2024 Paris Olympics but is instead rooted in a desire to see the gymnast reconcile with his loved ones.
“Para lang magsama-sama silang mag-pamilya, magbibigay ako ng P5 milyon. Hindi [dahil] sa panalo niyang gold sa [Olympics], more on sa pamilya,” Singson stated in his video message uploaded on August 17. He expressed empathy for the family’s situation, particularly the strain between Yulo and his mother, Angelica, adding, “Kasi nararamdaman ko ‘yung… Masakit sa ama na aawayin ka ng anak mo at ‘di man lang sila inimbita.”
Singson acknowledged the challenges in bringing the family together, particularly given the past issues between Yulo and his mother. “Ang sigurado, si Carlos Yulo at yung tatay, yung pamilya nila. Yung nanay ang kinakausap pa kasi masama ang loob nung bata kasi may away yata noong nakaraan,” he remarked.
When asked about the possibility of an incomplete reunion, Singson assured that he would still honor his P5 million pledge, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the family regardless of the outcome.
Yulo’s family has been at the center of controversy following his Olympic success. The 24-year-old gymnast recently addressed comments made by his mother about his relationship with Chloe San Jose and the alleged mismanagement of his previous winnings. Despite the tension, Yulo mentioned that he had forgiven his mother “a long time ago.”
In response, Angelica Yulo held an emotional press conference, where she apologized to her son and expressed a desire for reconciliation.
On his Facebook page, Chavit posted this statement regarding his pledge:
“I am to convey a powerful message that an individual’s success is never theirs alone; it is shared by those who stand by them, offering love, guidance, and unwavering support.
“Hon. Luis “Chavit” Singson pledges a ₱5 million reward to two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo and his family, hoping to foster unity within the family after their personal disputes were publicly shared and debated on various social media platforms.
“Chavit, known for his strong commitment to family values, mentions that the reward is not only for Yulo’s momentous achievements but also for the unity of Yulo’s family and his partner.
“Chavit hopes that this reward will inspire others to cherish and support their loved ones, even in times of great endeavors and significant sacrifice.”
