Tinian Eyes Online Gambling Boom with Proposed Bill

May 23, 2024 World iGaming & Gambling

Known as the “second Senatorial District” of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Tinian hopes to establish itself as a major online gaming center.

On the island, internet gaming would be made legal and governed by laws proposed by Senator Jude U. Hofschneider, a Republican from Tinian.

Senate Local Bill No. 23-05 would amend the Commonwealth Code to provide the issuance of up to 20-year licenses for internet gaming.

As per the bill, the aim of this measure is to maintain Tinian’s compliance with US federal requirements while simultaneously making the island more competitive in the global market.

In creating and enforcing industry-specific laws, the bill outlines the duties of the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission. A crucial component, a cap on the total number of licenses that can be granted, is absent, though.

Moreover, the rule limits internet gaming activities to those who are physically based in Aguiguan and Tinian, or in other jurisdictions where online gambling is legal.

Operators would need to ensure compliance by requiring geolocation and age verification software.

This recommendation is made as Tinian tries to expand its sources of income and take advantage of the expanding online gaming market.

The legislature of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands must approve the law and handle any potential problems with responsible gaming policies.
