Singapore Clamps Down on Illegal Betting as Euro 2024 Heats Up
Singaporean officials are gearing up to tackle illicit and problem gambling during the 2024 European Championship.
Underscoring Singapore Pools’ monopoly on regulated sports betting, the Ministries of Home Affairs (MHA) and Social and Family Development (MSF) together issued a warning against illicit betting.
Having conducted over 300 raids on illicit gaming in 2023 alone, police have a track record of success. Millions of funds linked to similar activities have also been frozen, and thousands of illegal websites have been shut.
The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) will launch a public awareness campaign to further protect locals.
Television and social media advertisements will highlight the risks associated with excessive betting and encourage responsible gaming.
Activities aimed at engaging the community will also serve as a warning against unlicensed operators.
Singaporeans are advised by the authorities to wager sensibly and to report any illegal conduct. Those who are struggling with problem gambling can get assistance from the National Problem Gambling Helpline.
Football lovers can watch four free Euro 2024 games on Channel 5 and meWATCH as Singapore takes action against the illegal side of the sport.
