MGM Hospitality Ltd aims to open ‘Mirage by MGM Shanghai’ hotel in 2027

Based in mainland China, Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality Ltd plans to build a “Mirage by MGM Shanghai” hotel in Shanghai by 2027, as per a post on WeChat, a Chinese social media platform.

This project is the outcome of a collaboration between MGM Resorts International, a US-based casino and hotel chain, and Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in China. An key partner in this partnership is MGM Resorts International, which has the majority stake in MGM China Holdings Ltd, the operator of casinos in Macau.

At a signing ceremony on Sunday, MGM Resorts’ CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle and Chief Legal and Administrative Officer John McManus made the announcement about the Shanghai project.

Under the Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality umbrella, Mirage by MGM Shanghai will join two other Shanghai hotels, the MGM Shanghai West Bund and Bellagio Shanghai, which opened in 2018 and 2023, respectively.

One of AXIOM Yunji Shangpu’s two towers will house the 205 hotel rooms that make up The Mirage by MGM Shanghai. The business and leisure complex AXIOM Yunji Shangpu was built by Tishman Speyer.

The Diaoyutai-MGM joint venture has expanded the number of hotels it can accommodate on the Chinese mainland in recent years. The Guangdong province’s Shenzhen and Zhuhai, which are both near Macau, are two of the places where hotels are planned. Furthermore, in June of last year, the company opened two hotels in Qingdao, Shandong province, eastern China.

The Diaoyutai Hotel, Bellagio by MGM, MGM, Mirage by MGM, Mhub by MGM, and Mx by MGM are just a few of the hotel and residential brands that Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality is now pushing on the mainland.
