Under the direction of Budi Arie Setiadi, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia has implemented stringent measures to limit internet gambling inside the country.

The Directorate General of Information Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Information has figures showing that access to an astounding 805,923 different forms of gambling content has been banned. Attempts have been made to restrict payments for online gaming as well as to prohibit IP addresses and websites.

This extensive measure is the result of five years of effort and is a part of the ministry’s ongoing commitment to fight illicit online gambling. Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that the Ministry works closely with many different stakeholders, including digital platforms, internet service providers, financial services authorities, and telecommunication companies.

Data shows that access was prohibited to 173,134 Meta platforms, 29,257 file-sharing platform accounts, 5,993 Google and Youtube platforms, 367 X (Twitter) platforms, 170 Telegram platforms, 15 TikTok platforms, 8 App Store platforms, and 1 Snack Video platform, in addition to 596,348 sites and IP addresses. More than five thousand payment methods were identified and blocked as part of this massive project.

In Indonesia, casinos, poker rooms, sports betting, and bingo have all been outlawed since November 6, 1974. These broad measures to stop the proliferation of unlawful online gambling activities inside the country are the result of the authorities’ problem caused by the expansion of internet gambling despite the long-standing ban.
