Cambodia set to introduce e-arrival card next year to boost tourism
On January 1st of next year, Cambodia plans to use an e-arrival card to streamline the country’s entry process. The trial period for this method will run until June 30th, during which time all passengers coming will be required to complete an online form or a paper form upon arrival.
Over 4.4 million tourists arrived in Cambodia over the first 10 months of this year, a notable increase of 180 percent from the previous year.
Chen Lip Keong, the founder of NagaCorp, the biggest casino operator in Cambodia, passed away at the age of 75. NagaCorp is based in Phnom Penh. His son assumed the role of CEO of the company after his death. It was revealed in July 2022 that shares in NagaCorp that the founder had previously held directly or indirectly had been moved to a family trust established for succession planning.
These incidents took place in the context of a shift in the political establishment in Cambodia. After 38 years in office, the nation’s long-serving prime minister, Hun Sen, stepped down, and his son, Hun Manet, assumed the position. Despite these changes, Cambodia is eager to expand its Southeast Asian tourism industry despite growing competition from adjacent gaming regions.
