China, Myanmar affirm commitment to intensify efforts against telecom fraud

The foreign ministers of China and Myanmar reiterated their commitment to stepping up efforts to fight telecom fraud during a meeting on Wednesday in Beijing.

Concerned about cybercrime and online gambling, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent a dire warning to U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Myanmar, emphasizing the need for increased cooperation between law enforcement and security agencies. Wang, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, emphasized recent collaborative efforts to fight telecom fraud and rescue victims in northern Myanmar.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, an investigation into telecom fraud that harmed Chinese people and started in northern Myanmar resulted in the extradition of 31,000 individuals to China by the end of November.

In addition to securing China’s complete coordination and cooperation, Than Swe emphasized during the meeting Myanmar’s determination to fight transnational illicit activities including telecom fraud.

Wang echoed China’s views on Myanmar’s rapid political transition and swift achievement of internal stability in conformity with the constitution. He affirmed China’s policy of non-interference in Myanmar’s internal affairs, praised Myanmar’s commitment to the one-China concept, and expressed confidence in Myanmar’s ability to resist the idea of “Taiwan independence” while also supporting China’s reunification.

According to Than Swe, Myanmar identified China as its most important neighbor and indicated that it wished to improve ties with it. He stressed that in order to secure both nations’ prosperity in the future, Myanmar is prepared to increase its collaboration with China in all spheres. Despite the internal challenges, Than Swe expressed hope that China will continue to support and assist in achieving internal peace and stability.

Wang emphasized China’s readiness to work with Lancang-Mekong countries to guarantee the summit’s success, putting a special focus on cooperative policies meant to further regional growth. Than Swe emphasized the importance of the summit’s success and stated his desire for strong collaboration with China.
