Macau expects 40 more MICE events before year ends

September 26, 2023 Macau Events & Announcements

Between September and December 2023, Macao will hold 40 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, with an anticipated 400,000 guests, according to the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). Over 700,000 people attended the over 490 MICE events Macao held in the first half of 2023, an increase of over 50% from the 477 events it hosted in the same time of the previous year. Throughout the year, there are expected to be over a thousand events.

The meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) sector has seen a significant resurgence as a consequence of the reopening of Macao’s borders since January 8. These occasions deal with a variety of subjects, such as money, health, technology, travel, and sports. Notably, the most recent 10th World Economic Forum on Tourism attracted attendees from 95 nations across six continents, totaling more than 14,000 in-person delegates and 2.3 million online.

Since the boundary was reopened earlier this year, Macao’s MICE sector has grown. The World Economic Forum on Tourism’s Vice Chairman and Secretary, Pansy Ho, underlined that mainland Chinese tourists represent the majority of Macao’s visitors and are increasing younger. She is also the Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China. By emphasizing the continuing development efforts and investment ambitions of Macao’s six integrated tourism and leisure firms to spur change and expand regional commerce, she stressed the importance of innovation in the tourist sector.
