Chinese involved in illegal gambling nabbed at NAIA

September 22, 2023 Philippines Crime & Legal

A Chinese man who was wanted for illegal gambling was caught at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Philippines, on Monday.

Jiang Ning was identified by the Bureau of Immigration as he was trying to board his flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He is said to have helped set up a gaming ring that runs 14 gambling sites and makes illegal money in China and the Philippines. From 2014 to 2021, his group is said to have been in business, and made transactions with more than 100,000 Chinese gamblers.

Jiang had an Interpol Red Notice under his name, according to the Bureau. Interpol says that a “red notice” is a request to all law enforcement agencies around the world to find and temporarily arrest a person waiting transfer, surrender, or other legal action. A Red Notice is given to a person when a member state or foreign court asks for it.

The Chongqing Municipality’s Qijiang District Public Security Bureau has issued a warrant for this person’s arrest. He was charged with breaking China’s Criminal Law by setting up a casino, and BI said on its official Facebook page on Tuesday that he could get up to 10 years in jail.

Jiang’s case was sent to the BI’s Legal Division. The bureau also said that he would be charged with being an unwelcome person and kept in their Warden Facility in Bicutan, Taguig, until his removal case is heard.
