Pagcor warns about illegal websites using its logo

September 13, 2023 Philippines Crime & Legal

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), which is responsible for regulating gaming in the Philippines, has issued a warning to the public regarding the proliferation of websites that unlawfully use its name to mislead visitors into believing they are affiliated with approved overseas gaming in the Philippines.

Alejandro Tengco, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pagcor, cautioned individuals to exercise caution when using these online gaming sites, as they may compromise personal and financial information.

Pagcor also issued a warning regarding bogus websites employing its former logo. This was done to inform the public that the company debuted a new logo in July.

The majority of these illegal websites have been shut down by the regulator, but some are quick to create new ones, highlighting the need for the public’s assistance in reporting these frauds.

Tengco stated that Pagcor is implementing numerous measures to address the issue. One of these is collaborating with law enforcement agencies and electronic payment service providers to determine whether or not they can halt payments to and from illicit gaming websites. This includes its collaboration with the National Telecommunications Commission to identify unlawful websites that have not been blocked or taken offline.

Pagcor also advised people to consult the official list of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) on Pagcor’s website before using online gaming platforms. They also emphasized the importance of immediately reporting any unlawful overseas wagering operations.

Pagcor announced last month in the Philippines that all licensees and service providers associated with POGOs must renew their licenses by September 17. This is due to concerns that the industry is connected to illicit activities.
