What not to wear at a casino

October 24, 2022 World Casino & Hotel

The tradition of dressing up for a night at the casino dates back generations. Some of the most upscale brick-and-mortar casinos may still have severe dress codes that patrons must follow if they want to gamble there.

Since casinos have always catered to customers of many socioeconomic backgrounds, it has always been necessary to enforce a strict dress code that everyone must follow.

Each casino in world-famous gambling cities has its own dress code and you should be aware of it before you enter. Still, before actually visiting a casino, it’s a good idea to check out its website to familiarize yourself with its regulations and vibe.

If you are not aware of these dress codes, here are a few clothing pieces that would be best to avoid when going to the casino.

Hats and sunglasses

Nowadays, there is less of an emphasis on a strict dress code inside casinos. Each casino has its own dress code, so it’s a good idea to check their websites before making travel plans. However, there are certain standard guidelines to follow while deciding what to wear.

Wearing headgear, such as a hat or sunglasses, while participating in activities within the facility is generally not frowned upon. In any case, you shouldn’t be startled if a manager or the dealer themselves requests you to take them off. As part of a stricter dress code, it may be prohibited to wear them. However, for concerns of safety, some casinos do not allow these accessories and wouldn’t let anybody bet inside who is hiding their face.

Uncomfortable shoes

If you expect to spend most of your time at the casino seated at a table or in front of a slot machine, you are wrong. First off, casinos are huge establishments. You would probably have to do a lot of walking just to get to the gaming area. Next, you may be shocked to learn that there is a lot more walking involved than you may imagine. Once you are there, you are probably going to take a tour and try eating out, watching the shows, and seeking other gaming options available to you. However, this does not mean you can simply wear sandals, flip-flops, or your favorite worn-out sneakers. For men, a good pair of leather shoes in whichever design you want is advisable. For the ladies, you may wear a pair of high-heeled shoes but make sure that they’re comfortable and won’t cause you pain after a few hours.

Offensive clothing

These days, it’s common to see people wearing t-shirts with offensive statements and slurs. These may be funny, but they have no place in a casino. You don’t want to make enemies, and yelling obscenities at the dealer or Roulette wheel spinner won’t improve your chances of winning. Similar to how you should not say anything that may be considered offensive in a public setting, you should also refrain from saying anything sexist, derogatory, racist, or otherwise inappropriate when at a casino.

Too revealing clothes

A casino is a place for adults, but that does not mean that you can just wear anything you want that can cause a lot of unwanted attention. Sexy dresses and low-cut tops are generally acceptable. However, it would be best to avoid clothes that are so sheer or clothing that are so ill-fitting that they often result in wardrobe malfunctions. Feel free to dress to the nines. Besides annoying the other players, you risk being kicked out for indecent exposure if you do that.
