PNP vows one-strike policy vs illegal gambling
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday it would strictly enforce the one-strike policy against police commanders who fail to curb illegal gambling operations.
PNP Directorate for Operations chief Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon warned police chiefs that they would be relieved from their posts if they are found either tolerating or in cahoots with illegal gambling operators.
“We have to remind police commanders that there is a specific instruction from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and PCSO (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office) chairperson Royina Garma that Peryahan ng Bayan operations are no longer authorized,” Valeriano said in a statement.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año had ordered the PNP and local government units to strictly enforce the ban on Peryahan ng Bayan operations.
