GVB preparing for SKorea visitors

South Korean travelers are getting ready to go, go, go! And knowing they’re itching for safe, easy getaways out of country, competitive outbound destinations are hankering to serve up hospitality, leisure, shopping, dining and adventure after two years of hanging on for dear life in hopes the visitor industry will finally recover from a pandemic that has lasted two years.

After an interval that initially saw a veritable global lockdown on tourism, followed by desperate measures to get a grip on the contagion, and then the rapid spread of highly communicable but less severe novel coronavirus variants, the travel trade has eagerly anticipated yesterday’s momentous sunset on the Republic of Korea’s re-entry quarantine restrictions.

Last summer, Travel Daily Media reported that Global Data was already recognizing South Korea’s potential as “the third-largest source market out of the APAC [Asia Pacific] region going forward.”

The Guam Visitors Bureau anticipates the arrival of increasing numbers of Korean travelers in the months and weeks ahead. This is because, as long as they receive negative PCR tests before boarding, Koreans are finally able to return to their home country without facing days or weeks of quarantine. Thanks to support from Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio and Public Health, Destination Guam continues to fund PCR tests for visitors returning home.
