MGA appoints new Chief Executive Officer

December 19, 2023 World Events & AnnouncementsiGaming & Gambling

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced Charles Mizzi as its next CEO. On January 26, 2024, Mizzi, who is now the CEO of the Residency Malta Agency, will start in his new role. He will follow outgoing CEO Carl Brincat until then.

Mizzi was the manager of the Malta Permanent Residence Program before she started her career. When he moves to the MGA, Jonathan Cardona, the deputy director of the Residency Malta Agency, will assume the role of CEO.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Mizzi stated, “I am keen to build on past successes and, together with the team under the guidance of the minister responsible and the board of governors, to strategically steer the authority forward so that Malta’s already robust position in the field may be further strengthened while delivering value to all stakeholders.”

Silvio Schembri, the Minister for the Economy, EU Funds, and Lands, congratulated Mizzi on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the MGA at a challenging time for the gaming licensing body. Malta has faced challenges recently, including being included to the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list, but it has made a strong effort to maintain its standing in the industry.

With Mizzi on board, the MGA should be able to better navigate obstacles and fortify Malta’s position in the online gaming sector thanks to her leadership and experience.
