Macau Casinos Ditch Free Snacks, Stocks Dip But Impact on Revenue Seen as Minimal

June 14, 2024 Macau Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

Macau casinos are getting rid of free snacks, which could lower foot traffic overall but not significantly affect gaming revenue, according to analysts at Morgan Stanley.

The action was prompted by local businesses’ complaints about unfair competition. Drinks are still free at casinos, but in order to eat, you have to have a loyalty card and bet.

The revelation caused a little decline in the stock prices of Macau casino operators, probably as a result of worries about drawing in non-gambling patrons.

Analysts estimate that the impact on revenue will be minimal because high rollers, who are now driving Macau’s casino revival, find complimentary food less alluring.
