Sands China Commences Renovations at Sheraton Grand Macao and The Londoner Macao

April 19, 2024 Macau Casino & Hotel

In addition to announcing plans to reconstruct The Londoner Macao’s second casino starting in May, Sands China has also announced that the Sheraton Grand Macao will undergo substantial renovations.

The company does, however, caution against major changes to its product lineup in 2024.

Sands China revealed a little decline in revenue and Adjusted Property EBITDA from the prior quarter during Las Vegas Sands’ 1Q24 earnings call.

The Londoner Macao’s renovations that cost up to 600 hotel rooms caused the hotel’s net revenues to drop from US$589 million to US$562 million.

Part of The Londoner Macao’s Phase 2 renovations, which will cost an additional $1 billion on top of the $2 billion spent on Phase 1 work, includes the Sheraton.

According to Sands, the first tower of the hotel will be finished by the end of 2024, and the second tower is expected to be finished in May 2025.

By December, The Londoner Macao’s second casino will also have undergone renovations.

President and COO of Sands, Patrick Dumont, expressed optimism about The Londoner Macao’s prospects, projecting that when it is finished, it will compete with The Venetian Macao.

Still, he acknowledged that the remodeling process was inconvenient, particularly in the heat.

The CEO and President of Sands China, Grant Chum, stressed the value of the Cotai Arena renovations at the Venetian in terms of the entertainment options provided by the company.

Chum emphasized the long-term advantages of the upgrades, which will raise the standard and make Sands properties more competitive, despite the disruption.

Dumont explained the decision to accelerate restoration efforts in order to facilitate a seamless transfer beginning in the middle of 2025.

Acknowledging the immediate challenges, he emphasized the anticipated advantages of boosting premium travel and repeat business from devoted customers.

Sands China is committed to delivering exceptional experiences and maintaining its status as Macau’s leading integrated resort operator, even in the wake of the renovations.
