S’pore Tourism Board acknowledges, respects China’s overseas gambling caution
The Chinese embassy was acknowledged by a high-ranking representative of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in a statement that cautioned Chinese people against gambling abroad.
The board acknowledged and respected the objections raised, according to Andrew Phua, Executive Director of STB’s International Group for Greater China.
In a statement released via WeChat, the Chinese embassy emphasized that individuals who participate in cross-border gaming operations may face legal repercussions, even if such activities are lawful in their own countries.
In response, Mr. Phua highlighted Singapore’s standing as a dependable and exciting travel destination for travelers on business as well as vacation. He emphasized Singapore’s many tourism sites and activities, as well as its family-friendly environment, multilingual, and safety. Mr. Phua also mentioned Singapore’s ongoing 30-day reciprocal visa-exemption arrangement with China, which promotes the travel-related industries and makes Singapore more appealing to Chinese travelers.
As to STB’s report, in February 2024, over 327,000 tourists from China visited Singapore. This figure represents 96% of the 2019 data, solidifying China’s position as the primary source market for visitors to Singapore during that month.
Through branding and PR initiatives, STB hopes to carry on its September 2023 launch of the “Made in Singapore” campaign, which seeks to introduce Chinese visitors to Singapore’s hidden gems and unique experiences. Mr. Phua emphasized the board’s dedication to providing outstanding experiences for Chinese visitors to Singapore.
