China primary source of visitor arrivals in Singapore

In February, China overtook Indonesia as the country from which the majority of tourists arrive in Singapore. This is one of the biggest contributions from the Chinese market since July and August of the previous year.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) revealed figures showing that 326,970 arrivals, or 22.7% of Singapore’s 1.44 million visitor admissions in February, were from mainland China. This increase was made in tandem with the Chinese New Year break, which took place from February 10 to February 17, and the beginning of bilateral agreements for 30-day visa-free travel between China and Singapore on February 9.

With 190,760 visits in February, Indonesia trailed only by Malaysia with 100,200, having led the market in January.

With a year-over-year increase of 825.9 percent in mainland China, February experienced the biggest increase. tourists from mainland China stayed in Singapore for an average of 4.22 days, 8.7% less than the average of 3.46 days for all tourists.

Over 2.87 million visitors came in Singapore in the first two months of this year, up 52% over the same period last year. China’s mainland accounted for 538,160 tourists, or 18.7% of total arrivals, making it the country that brought the most number of visitors to Singapore during this period.

The two casino resorts that dominate Singapore’s tourist industry are Resorts World Sentosa, which is under the ownership of Genting Singapore Ltd., and Marina Bay Sands, which is operated by Las Vegas Sands Corp.

Early in February, STB predicted that, with “15 million to 16 million” possible tourists, Singapore’s tourism earnings from international visitors may reach “SGD26.0 billion [US$19.4 billion] to SGD27.5 billion” in 2024.
