Resorts World Genting announces closure of two of its three casinos
The first integrated casino resort in Malaysia, Resorts World Genting, has announced that two of its three casinos will close on February 28, 2024, with immediate effect.
Genting Casinos Hollywood and Circus Palace both closed immediately after the unexpected decision was revealed on the Resorts World Genting website.
It was recommended that patrons move their gaming to SkyCasino, which provides a convenient shuttle service every day from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Local media sites indicated that after the COVID-19 epidemic started, business at Circus Palace and Hollywood had decreased, despite the notification not specifying the causes for the closures. For additional input, IAG has reached out to RWG.
In the third quarter of 2023, Genting Malaysia, the operator of the RWG, reported a net profit of MYR158.3 million (US$33.8 million), an increase from the previous year’s loss of MYR8.2 million (US$1.75 million). The main reason for this positive development was better performance at its flagship property in Malaysia.
Thanks in large part to the anticipated return of Chinese tourists, analysts estimate that Resorts World Genting will see a total comeback in attendance this year.
