The Star formally starts cashless gaming

February 23, 2024 Casino & Hotel

At The Star Sydney casino, The Star Entertainment Group Limited has formally started a trial of carded play and cashless gaming.

This trial comes after the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained and precedes upcoming changes to the New South Wales (NSW) regulatory framework that will allow NSW casinos to offer carded play and cashless gaming starting in August 2024.

The ‘Sovereign Room’ at The Star Sydney casino hosts eight table games and fifty-one poker machines as part of the trial. Speaking about the experiment, Robbie Cooke, the CEO and Managing Director of The Star’s Group, emphasized the meticulous planning, development, testing, and training that were done in collaboration with important regulators.

As part of the company’s transformation drive, Cooke highlighted that the trial enables the evaluation of new technology and processes from the viewpoints of both guests and team members, ensuring readiness for the new regulatory regime that will go into force in August 2024.

The start of this trial demonstrates The Star’s commitment to implementing cutting-edge technology, enhancing the overall visitor experience, and abiding with legal requirements meant to establish a more secure and safe gaming environment.
