GamCare announces appointment of new Deputy CEO
The UK-based gambling assistance firm GamCare has appointed Mark Weiss as its deputy CEO. Weiss, who is now the Director of Communications and External Affairs, will keep that role in addition to taking on additional duties.
Weiss has worked in health policy and communications for more than a decade. She managed the UK’s biggest hospital specialty, policy and public affairs for anesthesia, during the COVID-19 epidemic. Furthermore, he worked at the UK Faculty of Public Health for almost seven years in a variety of policy and public relations positions.
Weiss has actively participated in the communications and external engagement initiatives of GamCare since joining the company in 2022. In order to improve gaming practices’ safety and provide leadership, he will work closely with Executive Chair Margot Daly in his new position.
Noting firsthand experience with GamCare’s helpful benefits in aiding individuals impacted by gambling damage and avoiding additional harm, Weiss expressed his satisfaction at his new job. He is excited to work in partnership with external entities such as the NHS, GambleAware, and the government to determine the future of gambling therapy in the UK.
Weiss’s nomination was welcomed by Executive Chair Margot Daly, who also emphasized his commitment to helping the tens of thousands of people who utilize GamCare’s services on a daily basis. She stressed how crucial Weiss’ collaboration and evidence-based approach are to furthering GamCare’s goal of curing individuals afflicted by gambling-related suffering and halting its growth.
A record number of calls and online chats were made to GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline in 2023—a 24% rise over the previous year. An increasing demand for gaming-related support services seems to be shown by the 52,370 encounters that were recorded. Six thousand requests for help related to gambling were made on the WhatsApp channel over the course of the year.
