Galeries Lafayette makes debut in Macau

February 14, 2024 Macau Casino & HotelEvents & Announcements

The renowned French luxury retailer Galeries Lafayette has opened its first location in Macau.

After opening its Shenzhen location in July 2023, this is the chain’s fourth location in China and its second in the Greater Bay Area.

Constructed in partnership with the Resorts World Hotel, the newest Galeries Lafayette location is a part of the recently developed YOHO Treasure Island business complex, located on the banks of Nam Van Lake. The 45,000-square-foot Galeries Lafayette store offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and is located on the Lower Level of YOHO Treasure Island. It is notable for having the highest of its kind in Macau, a 7-meter-tall replica of the illuminated Eiffel Tower.

Nearly a year has passed since Galeries Lafayette’s previous collaboration with IT Limited was replaced by a contract with the Hopson Group, a local real estate developer. Intending to open 10 locations by 2025, the revised deal aims to expand Galeries’ footprint in China. The Macau and Chongqing openings were originally slated for late 2022, but the outbreak forced a postponement.

The re-established partnership between Galeries Lafayette and luxury goods aims to convey “a certain vision of the French art of living.” The Macau branch has outlets for high-end luxury fashion and cosmetics brands including Dior, Hermès, Loewe, Christian Louboutin, Maison Margiela, Diptyque, Lancôme, Estée Lauder, and others, which reflects this mindset. In Macau, ten out of the 100 enterprises that are featured are making their debut.
