Crown Resorts absolves CEO of any violations of laws

February 13, 2024 World Crime & Legal

Following an internal inquiry that was sparked by a complaint, Crown Resorts has declared CEO Ciaran Carruthers innocent of any legal violations.

An investigation into Carruthers’ alleged actions at Crown Melbourne, where he allegedly intervened to reinstate a customer who had been suspended for a year for bringing a minor into the gaming area, was covered by the Australian Financial Review in December.

The most current piece in the journal said that no laws or regulations had been broken, according to Crown’s internal investigation. However, according to Chairman Bill McBeath, to establish more distinct lines of accountability and responsibility for operational decisions, the board has started reviewing the organization’s security standards.

Following an inquiry by two law firms hired by the Blackstone-backed company, which acquired Crown Resorts following a successful bid, Carruthers was found not guilty. The findings of Crown’s investigation into the claims also satisfied the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission.

This incident occurred while Crown Resorts was working to address violations at its locations, which prompted Blackstone to purchase the company and install new management. The VGCCC will assess the company’s suitability to operate a casino in Melbourne, and the results are anticipated in April. Interestingly, Carruthers’ tenure at the company has nothing to do with this investigation.
