China Welfare Lottery offers one of its largest first prizes to date
One of the biggest initial prizes ever given out by the China Welfare Lottery was anticipated to be given out last Wednesday.
A winning bet of RMB680 million ($97 million) is allegedly sold at a single shop in Guizhou Province, and the latest lottery edition boasts a top prize of more than RMB700 million ($99 million), according to China News Service.
There were 136 first-prize winning bets in all, with the winning wagers totaling around RMB5.2 million ($727,000). Notably, Guizhou accounted for 134 of the winning wagers.
The majority of these winning wagers, according to Chinese media, could have been purchased by the same individual, potentially giving the winner a payout of more than $97 million.
According to official estimates, China’s total lottery income in 2023 would be RMB579.7 billion ($82 billion), a 36.5 percent increase from the year before. The benefit lottery had sales of RMB194.44 billion ($27.3 billion) over the same period last year, up 31.3 percent. Revenues from sports lotteries climbed by 39.3% annually to reach around RMB385.26 billion ($54.2 billion).
