58 arrested over illegal gambling, drugs in Laguna after province-wide crackdown
Over the weekend, law enforcement agents carried out a raid across the province of Laguna in the Philippines, which resulted in the arrest of 58 individuals and the recovery of contraband and illicit cash valued at over PHP9 million.
The broad range of arrests made during the operation was disclosed to the media on Monday by Col. Gauvin Mel Unos, the chief of the Laguna Police Provincial Office.
Thirty-seven individuals were accused of gambling illegally, while sixteen people were detained on suspicion of supplying illegal narcotics. The operation resulted in the designation of six individuals, including a well-known rapist, as the “Most Wanted” in the Calabarzon area.
Approximately 562.08 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, valued at PHP3.8 million, were seized during a buy-bust operation in Lumban town on Saturday, according to Unos, who highlighted a significant seizure made during the weekend’s operations.
Additionally, around PHP5.5 million was taken by investigators from four separate bookies in the province that represented illegal gambling activities.
Declaring in Filipino that efforts to apprehend offenders would continue in order to preserve the peace and security of the province, Unos underlined the Laguna police’s dedication to maintaining law and order.
